This is our third attempt at this trip, the first two were cancelled in Autumn due to heavy rain.

Bendethra Valley is a beautiful and remote campsite in Deua National Park, southeast of Canberra. The track in is steep but well graded, low range is needed but there is no requirement for traction control or lockers. This is more of a camping & touring weekend than a challenging 4wd trip. Suitable for newcomers. Update – January was the last time I was there and it’s possible to track may have deteriorated since then.

Meet at Braidwood Memorial Park (https://maps.app.goo.gl/W7V1kHYX65KV7p777) for an early lunch and then depart at 1200 on Saturday. We will enter from the western side which involves an hour drive on the bitumen and then two hours on steep fire trails to reach the campsite.

The camp ground consist of multiple grassy clearings with fireplaces along a 1 km stretch. Due to its isolation, there will probably only be one or two other groups in the valley. A crystal clear creek is available for swimming. Aim is to enjoy a relaxing evening sitting around a fire. Food is self catering and please bring 20 kg bag of firewood. There are no toilets (bring a shovel). Also no mobile reception.

Plan is to depart the campsite around 8 am on Sunday morning and we head east for around 2 hours to emerge near Moruya. Then two hours up to Nowra where we will stop for lunch. Finally around 3 hours back to Hornsby via Kangaroo Valley.

Camper trailers are allowed in, but only from the eastern side as the western side is too steep. If anyone would like to bring a camper trailer, let me know and we will see if we can work something out.
