I noticed a gap in our club calendar, so…….

Following October’s day trip to Stockton on a public holiday weekend, here’s another Sunday trip to Stockton Beach where hopefully this time we’re not caught in traffic at the approach 😉

No experience is required but it’ll be a day of soft sand 4×4 driving on very low tyre pressures, a chance to climb and descend some steep dunes and an opportunity to practice your sand recovery skills (using maxtrax, safe snatch recovery, etc.) with other experienced members.

We shall meet at the Stockton Beach carpark. Co-ordinate is S32.824762 E151.866588. Follow Lavis Lane in, about 2.5 Km, you’ll see your first house on the left, turn into the sandy lane on the right, and follow it to the car park, may be another 400m further along, turning right until you see a car park. Air down here, recommended pressure is below 20 psi.

Note: the map marker here only shows Lavis Ln in general, not the exact meeting point, but the car park will be pretty obvious to you once you’re there.

Minimum equipment needed is a UHF radio (club channel is 27, handheld will be ok ) and rated recovery points.

If you also have the following recovery gear then even better still: (but not essential as others club members will have these)

Snatch straps Truck protector or bridle Rated bow or soft shackles. Sand shovel Recovery boards (MaxTrax etc.) Compressor Tyre Deflator Whilst the majority of Stockton Beach goers that explore the dunes don’t bother using Sand Flags, these are highly recommended as they can provide advanced warning to others on the crest of a dune of your presence. If you have a sand flag please hoist it at least 1.5 m above the roof height at the front.

You do need a permit to drive on Stockton Beach and wardens do actively check for compliance. You can get a permit at the Metro Petroleum service station before entering Lavis Lane. Please allow sufficient time to purchase your permit bearing in mind it can take up to 15-2O minutes if longs queue form on a Sunday.
Find more on Permits here:

Please don’t forget to bring plenty to drink and some lunch
See you all there, Carl
